Terms of Service
Last updated: 2 May 2026
These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of SkinID, a Swiss authentication service operated by Quentin Nallet ("SkinID", "we", "our") at skinid.ch and through our browser extensions and native applications. By creating a SkinID account or using any part of the service, you agree to these Terms.
1. The service
SkinID is a hardware-bound authentication service that lets you use a subdermal NFC cryptographic implant (or a compatible NFC tag) to:
- Save and autofill website credentials (usernames, passwords)
- Generate and use FIDO2 / WebAuthn passkeys
- Authenticate to physical and digital systems via your implant
The service consists of a Swiss-hosted server, a web management panel at skinid.ch/management, browser extensions (Chrome, Firefox, Safari, Edge), and native applications for macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android.
2. Eligibility and account
- You must be at least 16 years old to create a SkinID account.
- You are responsible for the security of your implant and any device that has been authorised to act on its behalf (paired bridges, signed-in browsers, mobile apps).
- You may create only one personal SkinID account per implant.
- You agree to provide accurate information during account setup and to keep your contact details up to date for security notifications.
3. Hardware
SkinID is designed for use with NTAG216 / DESFire EV3 NFC chips, including subdermal implants such as xNT or xDF3. The implantation procedure (if applicable) must be performed by a qualified professional and is entirely your decision and responsibility. SkinID does not perform implantation, does not provide medical advice, and is not liable for any consequences of the implantation procedure, including but not limited to infection, rejection, displacement, or removal.
The implant is MRI conditional (safe up to 3 Tesla). Always inform your radiologist before any imaging procedure.
4. Acceptable use
You agree NOT to:
- Use SkinID to store, transmit, or facilitate any unlawful, fraudulent, or harmful activity
- Use SkinID to authenticate to systems you are not authorised to access
- Reverse-engineer, decompile, or attempt to extract the source code of our applications beyond what is permitted by Swiss law
- Probe, scan, or test the security of our infrastructure without prior written permission (responsible disclosure: support@skinid.ch)
- Resell, sublicense, or commercially redistribute SkinID without a written agreement
- Use SkinID in connection with safety-critical systems (medical devices, life-support, nuclear, aviation, or similar)
5. Pricing
SkinID is currently provided free of charge for personal use. Future paid plans, enterprise tiers, or hardware sales may be introduced at any time; you will be notified before any charge is applied to your account, and continued use of paid features will require explicit acceptance of pricing.
6. Service availability
We aim to keep SkinID available at all times but make no guarantee of uninterrupted service. The service may be temporarily unavailable for maintenance, security updates, or reasons beyond our control (e.g. data-centre outage, force majeure). We are not liable for inability to authenticate during such periods.
You can mitigate dependency on the service by exporting your credentials regularly from the Account section of the management panel.
7. Privacy and data protection
Your privacy is governed by our Privacy Policy, which forms part of these Terms. By using SkinID you confirm you have read and understood that policy.
8. Intellectual property
SkinID, the SkinID name, the cartouche-and-capsule logo, and all associated trademarks, designs, and source code are the property of Quentin Nallet (and of SkinID Inc. or its assignees if and when incorporated). You receive a limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable licence to use the service and the official client applications for personal authentication. Nothing in these Terms grants you ownership of any SkinID intellectual property.
You retain full ownership of the credentials, passkeys, and metadata you store in SkinID.
9. Disclaimers
SkinID is provided "as is" and "as available", without warranty of any kind, express or implied, to the maximum extent permitted by Swiss law. We do not warrant that the service will be error-free, secure against every conceivable threat, or fit for any particular purpose. We do not warrant the integrity of any third-party website or application that you authenticate to using SkinID.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, SkinID and its operator shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, consequential, special, or exemplary damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, data, use, goodwill, or other intangible losses, arising out of or in connection with your use of (or inability to use) the service.
Our total aggregate liability for any direct damages shall not exceed the greater of (a) the total amount you have paid to us in the twelve months preceding the event giving rise to the claim, or (b) one hundred Swiss francs (CHF 100).
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for gross negligence, intentional misconduct, or any liability that cannot lawfully be excluded under Swiss law.
11. Termination
You may terminate your SkinID account at any time from the management panel; this deletes all your stored credentials, passkeys, and personal data. We may suspend or terminate your access to the service if you breach these Terms, if required by law, or if we discontinue the service. Upon termination, sections that by their nature should survive (intellectual property, disclaimers, limitation of liability, governing law) will remain in effect.
12. Changes to these Terms
We may update these Terms as the service evolves. The "last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be communicated to active accounts (via the management panel banner or email if provided). Continued use of SkinID after a change constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
13. Governing law and jurisdiction
These Terms are governed by the laws of Switzerland, excluding its conflict-of-laws rules. Any dispute arising out of or in connection with these Terms shall be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of the canton in which the service operator is domiciled, subject to mandatory consumer-protection rules in your country of residence.
